Worries about fertility are common and it is important to remember that 80% of couples, where the woman is under 40, will conceive naturally within one year of having regular unprotected sex. It is advisable to to see a GP if you have been trying for over a year, or sooner if the woman is over 35 as fertility declines with age.
We appreciate that this can be a sensitive issue and a stressful time for both partners. Our doctors can provide support and guide you through the initial tests and arrange a referral to a fertility expert if needed.
It is best if both of you can attend together as fertility issues can affect both men and women. Your doctor will be able to carry out an examination to look for any abnormalities which may be precluding you from conceiving. They may also ask about sex, lifestyle, previous medical history and any medications you are currently taking.
For women requiring a fertility test our doctors can advise on and arrange blood tests and an ultrasound scan. Semen analysis can be carried out for men. Both of you may be advised to also take a chlamydia test as this can affect fertility in men and women.
Do not worry about determining for yourself which, if any, test you need. This is something that your doctor will be able to determine and explain during your consultation. All our fertility tests are available same day with some of the fastest results in London. One of our doctors will take the time to explain to you what your test results mean and put in place any appropriate next steps based on those results.

Fertility Tests for Women
A healthy, regular menstrual cycle that releases an egg every month or so relies on the correct balance of signals from the glands in the brain acting on the ovaries to release the hormones to mature and release an egg. Blood tests can measure the signals (FSH, LH, prolactin) and hormones (oestrogen, progesterone) at various points in the menstrual cycle to establish if everything is present in the correct amounts to ensure the best possible chance of ovulation. You would require a blood test early in your cycle (FIP) and a further blood test to checkprogesterone (PROG) on around day 21 of your cycle can indicate if you are ovulation.
These hormone tests can help to diagnose menopause/ovarian insufficiency or polycystic ovarian syndrome.
There is another blood test called AMH (AMH) which stands for anti-mullerian hormone. This is a chemical produced by the cells surrounding the eggs in the ovaries, so the idea is that the greater the number of eggs left, the higher this figure. Although, there is no guarantee about the quality of the eggs left. There is some controversy surrounding what this represents in terms of fertility, but in conjunction with other tests it is useful to measure. Aside from blood tests, fertility specialists would recommend ultrasound scanning and possibly a dye test to check for blocked fallopian tubes. Fertility Tests for Men - Sperm Count Test
The sperm count test (also known as semen analysis) is the main male fertility test and it is an important part of the investigations for couples with fertility problems as a low sperm count may impair fertility. The sperm count test can show abnormalities in the total number of sperm, the percentage that are normal and the number that are moving normally. All these factor will affect fertility.
If you have an abnormal result then your doctor may advise that you are referred to an andrologist who is a specialist in this area and can help you to optimise your fertility.

Highly recommend DocTap service. The appointments are easy to get (even with the same doctor) and flexible in terms of time/cost as well as location. I would recommend Dr Kumar who put me at ease and took the time to listen and help without me ever feeling rushed or judged. I have been attending for 3 months and will be keeping Dr Kumar as my regular GP. Also great you can get blood tests and antibiotics directly in the room so is super easy and efficient!

The GP was excellent! Any time I make a booking I will be glad to have THE SAME DOCTOR ( Dr Hourmouzios) SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY SUPERB IN HER ADVICE . SHE IS VERY EXPERIENCED AND SHE DEMONSTRATED IT . Her explanations actually corroborated a few findings that I have made about myself in the past recent & distant past . A good example of her class and dexterity as a GP is that while the video-doctor suggested an almost- mandatory change of my BP medication (Amlodipine) as solution, she was quick to understand that for now it was not likely to be the cause because I have taken it for more than 15yrs and it will not suddenly cause such a swelling overnight .Other factors ( too detailed to list ) also made me to realise how good she is as a GP # Very-good-experience-!

I was traveling from Texas in London and developed a severe sinus infection and was miserable. Luckily I found DocTap and was able to sign up and talk to a GP in under 45 min.
